Dear friends,

There’s really no easy way to write this.

After 15 years (yes, for real) - 15 of the most meaningful, challenging, rewarding, and undeniably memorable years of our lives - we have made the very difficult decision to not renew our lease. Project Spaces will close on October 31, 2026.

How do you even begin to honour a journey like this?

Well, here goes nothing…

In 2011, we were two guys trying to build a startup out of our living room.

That sucked.

So we leased a little space at King and Bathurst, filled it with folding tables, hooked up some WiFi, and opened the doors.

We had no playbook. No idea what we were doing. Just a hunch there might be a handful of other founders looking for a place to call home.

Turns out, we were right.

What started as simply a place to plug in our laptops and pour some coffee became something we never imagined. Over the years, more than 2,300 companies called Project Spaces home.

But it was never really about the companies.

It was about the people trying to build them.

Building a business is hard. Taking an idea that exists only in your head and trying to turn it into something real is really hard.

That's why one of our mantras was always “whatever it takes.”

You try again. You ask for help. You figure shit out. You celebrate the wins and pick yourself up after the setbacks.

And you don't have to do it alone.

That was the magic of Project Spaces. You could walk into the lounge with a problem and there was a pretty good chance someone had already dealt with it - and was happy to help.

That's what we meant by founder-friendly.

It wasn't just about the desks, the WiFi, or the 24/7 access.

It was about having people around you who got it.

We had another little mantra:

“Stop networking. Start making friends.”

Because the best communities aren't built by collecting business cards. They're built by sitting beside someone every day, grabbing lunch, helping without expecting anything in return.

By becoming friends.

And over 15 years, we watched that happen thousands of times.

People came looking for a desk and found cofounders, clients, collaborators, mentors, business partners and lifelong friends.

In our wildest dreams, we never imagined that starting a coworking space would take us on such a meaningful journey, or that what happened between these walls would teach us what the word community really means.

And we certainly didn't realize we'd still be doing it 15 years later.

So while we're obviously sad that Project Spaces is coming to an end, we're not sad about what it meant. To all of us.

We're incredibly proud of what we created and the impact it's had.

And we're especially proud of the community that all of you created together.

Because although we may have started Project Spaces, you made it what it became.

Getting to start, build, and sustain this community has been one of the great privileges of our lives.

Honestly, it might be the coolest thing we'll ever do.

Long-time members will remember a monthly startup panel from our early days called Drinks & Demos. We opened every panel with the same question:

“You were born. Now you're here. What happened in between?”

Looking back on the last 15 years, we think we know what our answer is.

Project Spaces happened in between.

And we couldn't have asked for a better story to tell.

So to everyone who has ever called Project Spaces home: thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with your businesses, your ideas, your ambitions, and your weird little side projects. Thank you for the coffees, late nights, brainstorming sessions, conversations, celebrations, lunches, and countless friendships that made this place what it was.

Thank you for letting us be a small part of your journey.

Thank you for making it ours.
